Tungsten - «Mining Encyclopedia»
Tungsten has been discovered and isolated in the form of the tungsten anhydride during the 1781 by the Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele. During the 1783, the Spanish chemists brothers José and Fausto Elhuyar have isolated the WO 3 from the wolframite, and, after having reduced this oxide using the carbon, they have obtained for the first time the pure metal, which has been named by them, tungsten - The Worlds of David Darling,Occurrence. Tungsten is extracted from wolframite (named after the German wolfram for the element), scheelite (calcium tungstate, CaWO 4), and other minerals.. Wolframite. Wolframite is iron manganese tungstate (Fe, Mn)WO 4, the chief ore of tungsten (see Figure 2).Wolframite forms brown to black monoclinic crystals or granular masses.tungsten | Colorado Encyclopedia,Located about two miles west of Nederland in western Boulder County , the Cardinal Mill processed gold, silver, and tungsten ore from its parent mine, the Boulder County Tunnel, as well as other local mines between 1902 and 1942.
